Blyde River Canyon

Blyde River Canyon is supposed to be one of the largest canyons in the world measuring 26 km in length. We took the Panorama route to see the views of the canyon and lowlands and of course to find some caches along the way. I was also hoping to find some little souvenirs to buy and take back home. Morning Walk and a Night Ride

There are certain activities offered by the park you stay at. They are morning walks and morning rides, afternoon rides, afternoon walks and night rides. There are also stays in bush for up to three days on offer. We decided to do those we couldn't do on our own and booked a morning walk already from home and a night drive on our arrival to Satara. Both were exciting in their own way. There were not many animals we could see. However, there is lots more you can learn about the bush by observing, reading the signs they leave behind. Especially on the morning walk - we learnt much about the elephant and rhino's habits. Oribi Gorge

Another stop on our way south and the southern most place we are going to reach (30 latitude) are Oribi Gorge nature reserve and adjacent parks. It's a spectacular place with wonderful views of and over the gorge with many possibilities for family entertainment. The most popular is Africa's longest zip line over the gorge. We had a great time in Oribi even without going down the zip line, just enjoying great views, searching for caches, and having delicious and rich meals. Staying at a farm was an experience of its own. It was our coldest place to stay so far, but at the same time the biggest place and at a very traditional farm. The family runs three businesses T once - a farm, a guest farm and a church. The house is full of crazy rules but we don't mind them that much :) we ignore them and don't break them.
